  • My Birthday Weekend

I finally have a few minutes to write about my birthday getaway weekend.

    Here's how it started:

Not the best picture, but you get the idea... MY MOM CAME TO WATCH THE KIDS!!!!
It was so nice.  That was my birthday present from my parents.  By far, the most expensive I've ever received from them.  That was the longest I had ever been without my kids, and it was so nice to not have to worry about them at all.  My in-laws don't mind watching them for short periods of time, but they rarely watch them overnight and I would really nervous about making them keep them for three nights.  And I also wouldn't have wanted to put that burden on any of my friends who have their own kids to watch.

As you remember, I didn't know where we were going.  Turned out, he took me to the Adirondack mountains in Upstate New York.  It was about 3 hours away.  We were in the Lake George area.  The first night we stayed at a Six Flags resort with an indoor water park.  Let's just say we were very disappointed.

It looks fun, doesn't it?  It probably would have been if most of it wasn't shut down.  Anything that I could have done in my "current state" was closed because of some kind of chemical problem with the water.  For example, the Lazy River was shut down the entire time.  So were several other things.

    And then this....

Do you see the red lights from a fire truck on the left?  Yeah, at 5:00 a.m. the fire alarm went off and we were sent out of the hotel room for TWO HOURS!!!  What exactly are you supposed to do at 5:00 a.m. when you are kicked out of your hotel room??? Well, we ended up just sitting in our vehicle until we could finally go back inside.  Fun!

This is us... trying to make the most of our situation...

The other two nights were much nicer.  This is the Bed and Breakfast we stayed at.

It was still in the same area.  It was lovely inside and out.  Since this is the slow part of the year, we were the only ones at the inn.  It was so nice and quiet.  The owners were very nice and cooked the best breakfasts.  They were so huge that both days I didn't eat lunch and just had an early dinner.  It was totally relaxing and just what I needed.  Lake George is a tourist area, but only during the summer, so there wasn't anything to do at this time of year.  Everything in Lake George Village was shut down, EVERYTHING.  Even the McDonalds was closed.  There was another nearby town that had some outlet stores, a mall and some restaurants, so we did some Christmas shopping (didn't find much), but other than that, we just relaxed and enjoyed each other.

My mom went home last evening.  It was so nice to see her again.  And I'm so thankful that she came to watch the girls.  We'll see her again in about a month when we go out there for Christmas.

This is the cake the girls made for me with grandma's help. Can you tell they picked the frosting color and all the decorations????

Now we are back to the grind here.  I had a meeting and a story last night.  We have our first parent/teacher conference for Ainsley in just a little bit.  Ainsley has a dentist appointment tomorrow.  Friends are coming over on Friday.  Saturday we're having portraits taken.  Sunday is church.  Monday afternoon we're on the road again to visit Josh's brother for Thanksgiving.

Life is good... busy and good.

  • Quality time with the hubby trumps most anything out there

Gad you mostly enjoyed yourself!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  • Hey you had to have some memories of your 30th b-day....looks like you got some! ;)

  • what a great gift!!!  and btw, you look good for it being 5am and just rolling out of bed!

I think Ben's family used to camp near lake george when he was growing up.

  • Well I'm glad you had a nice trip, even if the first leg of it was a little annoying.  I love Lake George, it's such a nice area.  Wow, you're busy the next few days ,huh?  I guess we won't get to hang out until after Thanksgiving at this point :(   Oh well..:)  No biggy, it'll happen.  See you tonight.

  • To spend THREE whole days alone with your husband, WOW, What a gift. Sorry the first night wasn't very fun but the other two sound like they made up for it. Happy 30th birthday.

  • Your mom is super-duper for doing that!!!!!  You only turn 30 once, right?  I'm sure she was anxious to see you and to help you celebrate by watching her yummy grand daughters.

Sorry about the disappointments in your trip, but it sounds like you both made the best of it.  I love staying at B &B's, although it has been a while.

    Happy birthday, dear friend!

PS,,,,Pastor and Diane were supposed to have their very last service at church on my 30th birthday.  It would have ruined the day for me, so God sent a huge snowstorm.  Church was cancelled and we were snowed in our house, cozy as little bugs.  I'll never forget it, it was a gift from God.........xoxox love ya!

  • It's a bummer to not be able to do much on your weekend getaway but your husband was so incredibly awesome for thinking of the getaway, keeping it a secret, and making sure you had a good time anyway.  It's always a great time when you're with your husband, right!  It doesn't matter what you're doing/not doing.  God is so awesome to give us such great men for husbands!  Happy Belated Birthday!

  • Well it looks like you and Josh got to enjoy each other even though you had a few disappointments! Nice to get away for your 30th birthday. What a nice mom to watch the girls for you!

  • Your hubby was so sweet to plan that birthday weekend for you, and what a blessing your mom was to you both! Grandmas are like that, and I'm sure she enjoyed herself ... and the girls enjoyed her! Hey, when I have grandkids, I'll be more than happy to spend three whole days with them!! I can't wait ... someday!! Well, I'm so sorry to hear about those little 'bumps in the road' on your weekend get-a-way, but just being together is all that counts! I just love those bed and breakfasts places! And the cake that was waiting for you was so special, I'm sure! What memories!!

RYC: Thank you for your sweet comment ... I'm still not feeling very well, and may be fighting the flu. I haven't been 'flu' sick for 3 years, and now is not a good time with our craft shows, and family coming in from out of town! So, I'll get as much rest as I can before the weekend, and hopefully feel better by then! Well, I pray you have a blessed week ... sounds like it will be a busy one for you! <><

  • WOW- there is never a dull moment w/ you is there??? Sounds like your weekend was pretty eventful.  But hey quality time away with the hubby is priceless.... And knowing w/o a doubt or worry that your kids are in good capable hands is nice too.  Hope you had a fun, memorable 30th birthday...
